About the Theoretical Course
Theoretical course outline
The Theoretical Course is available to any health practitioner involved in any aspect of the 11-14 Week Scan or the first trimester ultrasound scan or chromosomal abnormalities.
This includes Radiographers, Sonographers, Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, General Practitioners, Midwives, Genetic Counsellors, etc.
A multiple choice questionnaire (MCQ) is completed by delegates at the beginning of the course to ascertain the delegates understanding of the subject matter and then at the completion of the course in an interactive environment. Date and location of the next Theoretical Course 
The Theoretical Course covers such topics as:
Principles of Screening
Biochemistry
Multiple Pregnancies
Nuchal Translucency and chromosomal defects
Increased Nuchal Translucency with normal karyotype
Pathophysiology and increase Nuchal Translucency
Diagnosis of fetal Abnormalities in the 11-14 week scan
Amniocentesis and Chronic Villus Sampling
Counselling issues
Once the Theoretical Course has been completed operators who wish to become fully credentialed will need to complete the other requirements of the credentialing process. This involves the satisfactory completion of a logbook of 25 images and a Practical Examination. Once this is completed then the practitioner is accredited and has access to a copy of the Fetal Medicine Foundation software if required.
Following the course a certificate will be sent to delegates along with other information and collective results of the MCQ.
