Nuchal Translucency Online Learning Program (NTOLP)

Theoretical Course Outline

All practitioners involved with the first trimester ultrasound in Australia are required to undertake the Nuchal Translucency Online Learning Program (NTOLP) if they wish to have access to the Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF) first trimester software for calculating risks for Down syndrome and other chromosome abnormalities. See Certification Process on this website.

The course can be accessed here – elearning.nuchaltrans.edu.au

The course content is supported by a monograph 11-14 Week Scan – The Diagnosis of Fetal Abnormalities edited by Professor Kypros H Nicolaides and published by The Fetal Medicine Foundation London 2004.

The course covers the following topics:

  • Principles of Screening
  • Practicalities of NT Measurement & Nasal Bone Assessment
  • NT and Chromosome Abnormality
  • Biochemical Screening
  • 12 Week Anomaly Scan
  • Screening Test Results and Informed Choice
  • Screening and Multiple Pregnancy
  • Increased NT and Normal Chromosomes

The FMF runs regular courses in London and elsewhere and supports a number of other recognised Training Centres throughout the World to run similar courses. An online course is also available on the Fetal Medicine Foundation website as an additional resource for operators in Australia.

As of Monday 26 August 2013, all practitioners undertaking the Nuchal Translucency Certification Process must fill out the Registration Form Australian NT Program and send it to the program, along with a copy of their NTOLP certificate of completion. This can be sent at the same time as the submission of logbook images or before.
