NUCHAL TRANSLUCENCY

Log Book and Audit Image Assessment

Nuchal Translucency Scoring Sheet

The scoring method includes:

  1. An assessment of whether an image is interpretable (i.e. overall is it an appropriate image on which to measure the nuchal translucency?)
  2. Each image is then assessed individually on the following:

Five major criteria
Two minor criteria

  • Sagittal section

  • Caliper placement

  • Head position

  • Amnion

  • Image size

  • Skin line

  • Horizontal to the screen

  • The major criteria are given a score of either two (2) or zero (0) points, depending on whether the criteria are fulfilled.
  • The minor criteria are given a score of either one (1) or zero (0) points depending on whether the criteria are fulfilled.
  • The scores for each criterion are then added up to provide a total for each individual image.

10

This image is satisfactory.

This image scores 10. The amnion is not seen in this image and there is only a small space between the fetus and the uterine wall. In these cases an assumption is not made that the amnion has been seen separate from the skin line. Points are not awarded for amnion.
